How to Register a Company in Mozambique

The registration of companies in Mozambique is a simple and very practical process, it is enough that the interested people decide to follow the requirements established by Law.

Therefore, commercial licensing may be required by:

  1. Commercial enterprises and entrepreneurs operating in Mozambique;
  2. Foreign companies wishing to start their activities in Mozambique, creating a foreign commercial representation;
  3. Companies and entrepreneurs, duly qualified to register and obtain the Trade Operator Card (importer/exporter).

Depending on your location, commercial licensing may be requested at the Single Service Counters located in the country, as well as in the District Economic Services.

Note that the requests for registration in the Branches of Single Attendance are for the registration of foreign commercial representation; wholesale commercial licensing; retail and services; as well as for the registration of foreign trade operator.

In areas where there are no single counters or municipalities, commercial licensing must be done in the District Economic Activities Services.

The requirements are listed below:

1) Commercial Licensing

  • Duly completed form (available at BAÚ)
  • Identification documents:
    • For Mozambican citizens: identity card, driving license or voter card;
    • For foreign citizens:
      • Identification and Residence Document for Foreigners (DIRE);
      • Passport with business visa or precarious residence permit;
      • Identification document of the mandatary;
      • Document proving the registration of the company in the Country of origin;
      • Power of attorney in favour of the entrepreneur or accredited company;
      • Opinion of the body that oversees the area where it intends to develop its activities in the Country.
  • Unique Tax Identification Number (NUIT);
  • Certificate of registration from the Registry of Legal Entities.

2) Foreign Commercial Representation

  • Duly completed form (available at BAÚ)
  • Identification documents:
    • For Mozambican citizens: identity card, driving license or voter card;
    • For foreign citizens:
      • Identification and Residence Document for Foreigners (DIRE);
      • Document proving the registration of the company in the country of origin;
      • Power of Attorney in favour of the entrepreneur or accredited company;
      • Opinion of the organ that supervises the area where it intends to develop its activities in the Country. 

3) Registration of Foreign Trade Operator

  • Duly completed form (available at BAÚ)
  • Unique Tax Identification Number (NUIT)
  • Photocopy of the License.
